The Weigh-In-Motion (WiM) system has become an effective tool in tackling overloaded freight transport. Using sensors embedded in the road surface, the system measures the weight of trucks. In addition to weight sensors, the WiM system is equipped with other interactive modules. Cameras capture the vehicle’s speed, dimensions, and license plates, enabling the identification of overloaded vehicles without interrupting traffic flow. The system transmits consolidated information to inspectors’ devices and records it in a database. With this system, Ukraine applies automatic fines to violators of weight regulations.
The team managed the project’s development in cooperation with the World Bank and coordinated its implementation by introducing the necessary legislation and digital solutions. Since the project’s full launch over two years ago, the Ukrainian budget has received more than 300 million UAH.
